Dedham Savings Community Foundation Supports Homes For Our Troops

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation recently made a grant to Homes for Our Troops. Funds will be used to support the organization’s Home Build Project, which includes the construction of a unique, specially adapted, custom home designed to accommodate the needs of an injured Veteran. Each custom-built home is equipped with over 40 special modifications, like open floor plans with wide halls and doorways, as well as 360º exterior walkways encircling the house, all designed to make the house and yard fully accessible by wheelchair. Other adaptations include: a whole-home generator; roll-in showers; pull-down shelving in closets and cupboards; and roll-under counters, cooktops, and sinks.

ABOUT HOMES FOR OUR TROOPS

Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a publicly funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Many of the Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, blindness, severe burns, and/or severe traumatic brain injury. Living in homes with accommodations for their injuries restores some of the freedom and independence Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enables them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives.
