The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has awarded a grant to Project STEP, a nationally recognized program that helps students from underrepresented backgrounds learn classical music. The grant will enable Project STEP to purchase essential musical equipment and acquire specialized tools for instrument maintenance. These resources will support the program’s growing student population, which now serves 60 students, nearly half of whom come from families living in low- and moderate-income communities.
ABOUT PROJECT STEP
Since 1982, Project STEP (String Training Education Program) has provided talented young musicians that identify with historically underrepresented groups in classical music with comprehensive music instruction. Project STEP’s mission is to identify musically talented underrepresented students from Boston and surrounding communities, providing them with comprehensive music and string instrument instruction.
