The Dedham Savings Community Foundation has made a grant to the Walker School in Needham. Funds will be used to refresh the Art Room at the School and to purchase equipment, including a drying rack, pottery wheel and new furniture. The Art Room at Walker School hosts classes to provide students with the opportunity to express themselves in a safe, creative way while sharpening technical art, problem solving, and flexible thinking skills.
ABOUT WALKER SCHOOL
The Walker School is a K-8 special education school in Needham that serves over 100 students each year who are facing complex mental health, social-emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. The Walker School serves day students as well as students who are living in Walker’s Therapeutic Residential Treatment Program. Many of the children have multiple diagnoses such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mood or attachment disorders, trauma-related disorders, depression, anxiety, communication disorders, and autism spectrum disorder.

The Dedham Savings Community Foundation is a privately funded foundation created by Dedham Savings to provide financial support to charitable organizations that serve disadvantaged populations within the Bank’s community reinvestment area. These communities include Dedham, Needham, Norwood, Sharon, South Boston, Walpole, Westwood, and contiguous areas.
Typical requests are received from schools, libraries, family service organizations and non-profit organizations. The Trustees of the Foundation accept grant requests from community organizations and make awards twice per year.
